Syllabus

Module 1
Drone Flight School Introduction

In Module 1, you'll find out how our training is set up, learn more about the background of the instructor in both teaching and in drones, and get a feel for our learning management system. We'll also cover some administrative tasks, like how the course is structured and how to get help when you need it.

Module 2
Tools of the Trade

Sometimes drones feel like they have their own language and toolbox. Sometimes it's confusing for pilots. That's why we will go over the parts of a drone, how they work, some advanced payloads like LiDAR and thermal, as well as accessories that will make your life easier.

Module 3
Pre-Flight Planning

*Insert inspirational and/or cliche quote about planning and success here* Seriously though. Planning for a flight (especially if it's a large mission) beforehand makes the flight safer, easier, and more efficient. The problem is that not a lot of drone pilots have been shown an A-Z step-by-step method for their pre-flight planning. In module 3, we'll do just that and include a checklist to makes the days leading up to your flight standardized and successful.

Module 4
Regulations & Flight Planning

You'll take regulations into account on almost everything you do as a remote pilot, including flight planning. Sometimes the regulations seem to make certain missions harder. In module 4, we will look at real-world scenarios like mapping along a crowded highway and taking automated video of a busy shopping center and how you can plan these flights without breaking any regulations.

Module 5
The Flight Plan

Alight, it's time to get the drone into the air. In module 5, you'll learn about basic flight controls, pre-flight inspections, and last minute checks you need to make including weather, airspace, and Remote ID.

Module 6
Post-Flight Wrap Up

The drone has safetly landed and all is well. Let's throw it in the car and call it a day, right? While that is very tempting - in module 6, we'll cover a few quick things so you can efficiently do a post-flight inspection, pack up your gear, and log your flight hours. We will even work together to create a Google Sheets based flight logging that will export each individual mission as a PDF - and can be accessed by a QR code. Just in case you ever need to produce detailed flight records.

Module 7
Emergency Readiness

It's never pleasant to think about how, when, or why things could go wrong, and an emergency occur. But, taking a drone into the National Airspace System is something that can't be taken lightly, and as trainers, we can't take it lightly either. We will prepare you for the most common drone emergencies and how to respond so you'll be ready if you're ever in a similar situation.

Module 8
Practice Makes Perfect

Last, but certainly not least, we will give you several flight maneuvers to practice with so you can become a master of the sticks. You'll even get a practice schedule that will help you work up to 50 documented flight hours.
